The Bowies I make have a 10"-10-1/4" long x 1/4" thick blade, all hand forged from 440-C stainless steel.
Blades are hollow or flat ground, and mirror polished.
Fittings are Nickel Silver, guards are silver soldered, handle parts all glued. Nothing is loose.
Every sheath is made out of heavy, vegetable tanned 12-13oz leather, and decorated or carved in a distinct pattern.
New option is to have the blade made frosty by glass-bead blasting after polishing, plus darkened with gun bluing
